The event includes a keynote lecture by philosopher-poet Frederick Turner, followed by a reception and first look at "So Short A Lease: Early Reflections on the Human Timeline,” an archival exhibition curated by William H. Hannon Library's Department of Archives and Special Collections in collaboration with the Bellarmine Forum.
Lecture: "Time's Speech in The Winter's Tale: How the Past Can be Undying"
Frederick Turner is a Professor of Literature and Creative Writing and the Founders Professor at The University of Texas at Dallas. He is a poet, a cultural critic, a playwright, a philosopher of science, an interdisciplinary scholar, an aesthetician, an essayist, and a translator, and author of 28 books.
Exhibition: "So Short A Lease: Early Reflections on the Human Timeline”
Curated by the William H. Hannon Library Department of Archives and Special Collections, this exhibition examines mementos of time, life’s brevity, and the stark reality of Time and Death in the Middle Ages through the Renaissance. Exhibition is on view August 18 - December 16. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
