On April 27 – 29, 2023, the Graduate Tax Program at LMU Loyola Law School (LLS) will host the 26th Annual Critical Tax Conference in person on our campus at 919 Albany Street, Los Angeles CA 90015.

This year, the conference will include three types of sessions:

  • Presentations of draft papers, with discussion and feedback;
  • "Incubator" sessions in which professors sketch an idea for a paper, followed by discussion and feedback; and
  • A panel discussion (no paper required) on the topic “What Critical Tax Is.”

Most Critical Tax conference attendees present a draft paper or an idea for a paper. Professors who attend without presenting a paper or paper idea generally serve as paper discussants or session moderators. Also, this year we invite self-identified Critical Tax scholars to serve on a panel for the “What Critical Tax Is” session. The goal of this session is to ensure all participants in the conference understand what Critical Tax is and how it varies from other types of tax scholarship.

The proposed schedule for the conference:

  • Thursday April 27: An informal evening gathering (details to follow).
  • Friday, April 28: Sessions 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, followed by a dinner.
  • Saturday April 29: Sessions 9:00 am – 12:30 pm.
