About this Event
1955 Ignatian Circle, Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA
This exhibition explores the story of the South African print workshop – Artists Proof Studio. Founded in 1991 in Johannesburg, this community-based arts organization in has followed a trajectory of reconciliation and growth parallel to that of South Africa as a whole. The exhibition will focus on the studio as a place for professional training where a consciousness of art’s potential to contribute to social transformation is fostered. It will also feature some of the community projects the studio has developed to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS and other important social issues. Works by renown South African artists, such as William Kentridge, Bevan de Wet, and Mostamai Thabane which were collaboratively created at Artist Proof Studio with master printers will also be on view.
