Rethinking Career Counseling with Katharine Brooks

Join us as we expand our reach and invite career practitioners throughout Southern California to campus to gain a greater understanding of best practices toward career counseling. Our guest specialists advise on how to guide students and alumni toward ownership of their career path, by applying the principles of coaching.

Katharine S. Brooks is the Executive Director of the Office of Personal and Career Development at Wake Forest University. Prior to Wake Forest, she was the Director of Career Services for the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas in Austin, where she taught courses focusing on the connection between a liberal arts education and the workplace. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a nationally certified counselor (NCC), and a board certified coach (BCC), and has been practicing in the career services field for over twenty-five years. She is the author of You Majored in What? Mapping Your Path from Chaos to Career and writes a blog, “Career Transitions” for Psychology Today. In a poll of her peers in career services, Brooks has twice been voted a "Top Ten Visionary Leader", and in 2013 she won the NACE Kauffman Award for significant contributions to the profession. Brooks also developed the popular Career Coaching Intensive program for the National Association of Colleges and Employers providing training to career services personnel across the nation. Brooks has a doctorate in educational psychology and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from West Virginia University. Her bachelor's degree is in sociology and anthropology from Gettysburg College.
