In a society where media is the most persuasive force shaping cultural norms, the message that young women and men overwhelmingly face is that a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty and sexuality and not in her capacity as a leader.

Miss Representation is an award-winning documentary that explores how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging portrayals of women.

Following the screening, a panel of experts will discuss what we can do to change this dynamic, including:

  • Sona Gala, LMU Clinical Assistant Professor of Marketing & Business Law (facilitator)

  • Angélica Gutiérrez, LMU Associate Professor of Management

  • Kelly Watson ’06, Managing Partner, Orange Grove Consulting
