 s invites faculty\, staff\, and students to experience Balinese gamelan\, 
 first-hand. With instruments created in the workshop of a master instrumen
 t maker in the Gianyar region of Bali and currently on loan to the Institu
 te from the Department of Music\, these sessions are open to all members o
 f the LMU community.\n\nGamelan-playing is an integral aspect of community
  life throughout Bali. Participation is a process through which details of
  rhythm\, melody and form are “brought into the heart.”  Inspired by t
 his process\, as well as by the beauty of the music and the instruments th
 emselves\, this evolving tradition flourishes today in schools and communi
 ties both inside and outside of Bali. LMU is fortunate to be among these.\
