How can we minister to others at life’s most vulnerable moments? This course is designed for clergy, lay professionals, volunteers, and bereavement ministers who feel called to walk with those facing loss—whether sudden, traumatic, or prolonged. Participants will gain the skills, theological framework, and practical tools needed to compassionately accompany grieving individuals and families.

Combining pastoral theology, liturgical planning, and real-world experience, this hybrid-format program equips ministers to:

  • Support grieving individuals and families with sensitivity and presence
  • Plan and guide vigils, memorials, and Christian burial liturgies
  • Navigate collaboration with funeral homes and cemeteries
  • Comfort individuals, families, and communities with compassionate language and care
  • Care for themselves while caring for others—cura personalis

By the end of the program, students will gain confidence, clarity, and the tools needed to accompany others through one of life’s most difficult seasons—and to do so with grace, professionalism, and deep pastoral integrity.

The class meets on the following dates online and in person at LMU (Sacred Heart Chapel):
