Dedication of R.S.H.M. Memorial: Celebrating a 50-year legacy of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary on the bluff

Will Pupa, artist in residence at Marymount Institute for Faith, Culture and Arts, has been commissioned to do a bronze “bas relief” commemorating the social justice and gospel values of the R.S.H.M. As one of LMU’s sponsoring and founding religious orders R.S.H.M. sisters such as Margaret Mary “Peg” Dolan and Mary Milligan have been integral in carrying forward LMU’s Catholic identity and religious heritage. They and other members of the community are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery where the dedication will take place.

It was very professional and long overdue. There should also be a memorial on campus. These religious made exceptional contributions to the campus. I was disappointed that I didn't see any Jesuits at the event. I especially like the singing of the names of those being memorialized. I was there as a student the year Marymount moved to campus at it immediately improved the campus environment. It is unfortunate that vocation have dwindled and there are fewer religious on campus.
