Join us for a celebration of Frederick Douglass's birthday! 

Douglass Day is a collective action for Black history. We'll be joining people from all over the country to transcribe historical documents from the Colored Conventions Project. The "Colored Conventions" were political meetings of Black Americans from 1830 until after the Civil War, a key tool for organizing the fight for civil and human rights. 

LMU's Douglass Day Transcribe-a-Thon will take place in the Marymount Center, UHall 3002, on the third floor of University Hall in the northeastern corner. We'll begin at 9am and go until 12 noon, but you can come and go as you wish. 

The Douglass Day livestream schedule is:

• 9:00 - 9:30am: Live Broadcast – Join us in song (“Lift Every Voice and Sing”), receive an overview of the program and tutorials on transcribing the Colored Conventions materials, and listen to speakers on Douglass Day.
• 9:30 - 10:00am: Transcribing Time – Time for transcribing, readings, discussions, etc.
• 10:00 - 10:30am: Live Broadcast – Sing “Happy birthday” (both versions). We will have a dramatic reading of “Why Hold a Colored Convention?” by Hassan El-Amin. And you can still work on your transcriptions during this time. 
• 10:30 - 11:00am: Transcribing Time
• 11:00 - 11:20am: Live Broadcast – We will have a community discussion.
• 11:20 - 11:45am: Transcribing Time
• 11:45am - 12:00pm: Live Broadcast – We will share highlights from social media, Bake Off winners, and closing reflections.

We'll provide the livestream and breakfast. You need to bring your laptop or tablet and enthusiasm!
