The Battle of Los Angeles: Covering Immigration in a City Under Siege, 10 a.m. to noon, in Hilton 100,  will convene LA-based journalists and one legal expert to discuss coverage of immigration, detention, and community response. The panel will talk about best practices, ethics, legal considerations, attacks on journalists, use of social media, and other topics. Memo Torres (LA Taco) will give opening remarks. Panelists will include Memo Torres (LA Taco), Brittny Mejia (LA Times), Mandalit Del Barco (NPR), and Yanira Lemus (Loyola Immigration Law Clinic). Prof. Ruben Martinez will moderate. 

At noon, we will adjourn outside by the Drollinger Family Stage for lunch and music, with food trucks and a curated playlist from DJ and journalist Betto Arcos (NPR, KCRW, etc). LMU community partners will table their organizations and wares. 

This event is an interdisciplinary collaboration between BCLA and CFA organized by Media, Arts, & a Just Society and the Fletcher Jones Chair for Literature and Writing. It is part of the Bellarmine Forum, which this year is organized by the Center for the Study of LA, and is also supported by the CLST department.
