Free Event

Join faculty and staff every other Thursday from noon – 1 p.m. (Oct. 4, 18, Nov. 1, 15, 29, Dec. 13) to discuss racial identity development. In an effort to deepen our learning and professional practices, the group hopes to foster opportunities for dialogue and skill building on campus. The group is open to all and will focus on those who identify as white as we consider what that means in terms of identity, and how to work toward and advocate for an LMU community where all are welcome.

This past summer, a group of staff, some who are members of the Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere – LA (https://www.awarela.org/), read “So You Want to Talk About Race” and “Uprooting Racism.” Based on the success of that group, the sessions during the fall will be the next step in the process. We will be using relevant readings from current academic writings as the basis for our dialogue and self-reflection.

If you’re interested but cannot make the suggested time, please contact Fred Puza at Fred.Puza@lmu.edu, Ariane White at Ariane.White@lmu.edu, or Steve Nygaard at Steven.Nygaard@lmu.edu. We’re open to changing the time to accommodate schedules. Also, feel free to contact us with any other questions.
