The U.S. has maintained a longstanding interest in preserving peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, one of the most politically sensitive waterways in the world. The people of Taiwan overwhelmingly favor upholding the status quo; Beijing does not. Ryan Hass, senior fellow and director, China Center and Koo Chair in Taiwan Studies, Brookings; and Bonny Lin, director, China Power Project, Center for Strategic and International Studies, will explore how the outcome of the U.S. election will impact the trajectory of cross-Strait relations.
