The CSJ Center for Reconciliation and Justice, Chicano/a Latino/a Student Service, the William H. Hannon Library present a dual performance and exhibit honoring the legacy of Cesar Chavez through our facilities management and food service colleagues.
Hidden Uniforms: Honoring Cesar Chavez Through Our Workers is a dramatic reading of the story of the late Enrique Ramirez Ortiz, custodian at Loyola Marymount University and awardee of the 2018 Hidden Heroes Recognition from the CSJ Center for Reconciliation and Justice. The performance was developed through an interview with Enrique and will be combined with selections from Cesar Chavez's speech "What Is Democracy" as a tribute to both men and in celebration of LMU's very own essential workers.
Following the performance we will have an open dialogue panel with labor rights activist Vivian Rothstein, ’06 alumnus Albert Ramirez, Librarian Raymundo Andrade, and Facilities Management worker Luis De La O moderated by CLSS Director Olivia Rodriguez.
Additionally, the William H. Hannon library will host an exhibition titled “Hidden Uniforms: Honoring Cesar Chavez Through the Shoulders of Our Workers That We Stand On” from March 28 - April 8. The exhibition focuses on how generations have contributed and built upon Cesar Chavez’s activism through their work.
The event is free and open to all LMU community members. Light refreshments and appetizers will be available.
