Introduction to Sustainable Business II: Essential Foundations - Executive Education course


LMU Executive Education offers this two-day (July 20-21) course to provide professionals at all levels and of all backgrounds in the private or public sector with the essential foundations of sound sustainability decision-making. The key learning objective will be understanding the business case for progressive sustainability practices. The course will be delivered in four sessions:

  • Environmental law basics

  • Expert guest speakers on water resources, water sustainability and the business of water

  • Corporate sustainability disaster case studies

  • Expert panelists on climate change, California environmental protection legislation, and LA’s Green New Deal

Professor Daniel Jacobs, is a former award-winning Justice Department environmental enforcement trial attorney and founding director of the first interdisciplinary masters program in sustainability management in a U.S. business school. He is the author of BP Blowout: Inside the Gulf Oil Disaster.

Guest speakers will include:

  • Fran Pavley, legendary former State Senator, sponsor of major California environmental protection legislation

  • Felicia Marcus, former Chair of the California Water Resources Control Board and former Regional Administrator of U.S. EPA

  • Jon Freedman, Senior Vice President, Global Government Affairs, Suez Water Technologies and Solutions, and adjunct faculty member at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania

  • Steve Fleischli, Senior Director, Water Initiatives, Natural Resources Defense Council

  • Dominique Hargreaves, LMU ’04, Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer, City of Los Angeles

  • Ivan Penn, New York Times reporter

Note: This course includes free parking for Saturday and Sunday. A day pass to the LMU recreation center can be purchased at a reduced price of $5/day. Breakfast, lunch and course materials are included in the course fee.
