About this Event
Join Emmy-nominated producer and award-winning author Dr. Ansel Augustine as he discusses his new book, Praying With Our Feet: Encountering God in the Margins. Dr. Augustine's book has been described as a "rallying cry" for those who believe that faith should be expressed openly. During the discussion, he will share insights from his ministry roots in New Orleans and his current role at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC. He will explain how these experiences relate to the Jesuit value of *cura personalis* (care and understanding for each person) and how they contribute to the mission of being co-creators for a better world.
Dr. Agustine will be in conversation with Loyola Marymount University's Professor Michael Howard. Professor Howard leads the Certificate in Contemporary Black Catholic Spirituality at LMU's Center for Religion and Spirituality. Prof. Howard brings years of experience in ministry, theological teaching and reflection, the exegesis of scripture as well as a rich understanding and integration of the voices of the Christian mystics. Prof. Howard integrated Dr. Augustine's publication into his latest course titled "Do You Love Me? Studying John's Gospel in Light of Catholic Social Teaching."
This conversation is particularly important for Black Catholics and their allies as they seek to enliven Catholic Social Teaching as a critical proponent to the document, And the Wall Came Tumbling Down: A Report on U.S. Black Catholics' Dreams Towards a Just Church.
