This program is hosted by LMU's Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, and co-sponsored by the School of Film and Television .  The featured films are documentaries, fictions, or adaptations of literary works. They tell stories on identity via diverse experiences and topics such as women's reproductive policies in 1960s France, adapted from Nobel Price author Annie Ernaux's eponym novel (L'événement / Happening by Audrey Diwan, 2021); antisemitism in WWII occupied France (Monsieur Klein / Mr Klein by Joseph Losey, 1976); reporting crisis and the media (France by Bruno Dumont, 2021); social unrest and law enforcement (Un pays qui se tient sage / The Monopoly of Violence by David Dufresnes, 2020); urban street dancers taking over the Opera Bastille (Les Indes Galantes / Gallant Indies by Philippe Béziat, 2021); the dark side of journalism, a partial adaptation of Honoré de Balzac's 1837-1843 eponym novel (Les illusions perdues / Lost Illusions by Xavier Giannoli, 2021). Each film is presented by LMU faculty who bring to the forefront interdisciplinary and intercultural expertise; it is followed by discussions and Q/A with the audience .
