Join us for a special reception, screening, and panel discussion of Disney's Zootopia, co-sponsored by LMU Alumni Relations, at the St. Joseph Center in Orange, California.

Zootopia is a 2016 computer-animated comedy-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, co-directed by Jared Bush, and stars the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Tommy Chong, J. K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Alan Tudyk, and Shakira. The film details the unlikely partnership between a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist as they uncover a conspiracy which involves the disappearance of predator inhabitants of a mammalian metropolis. Zootopia premiered at the Brussels Animation Film Festival in Belgium on February 13, 2016, and went into general theatrical release in the United States on March 4.

The film won the Academy Award, Golden Globe, Critics' Choice Movie Award and Annie Award for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as receiving a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film.

A conversation and Q&A will follow with Christopher Glennon M.F.A. '12 (animation critic and reporter for ToonZone) and Karen B. Enriquez, Ph.D (LMU professor and compartive theologian), moderated by Michael McNaught (LMU Center for Religion and Spirituality).

About the Speakers
Karen Enriquez, Ph.D. is assistant professor of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University. Her research interests include Philippine and Asian/Asian-American theology and comparative theology.  In particular, she focuses on comparative spiritualities, contemplative pedagogy, and the role of religions, including their ethical and spiritual practices, in the work of justice, peace, and nonviolence.  She has published “With New Eyes to See: Changing the Perception of Self and Other through Interreligious Friendship” in Interreligious Friendship after Nostra Aetate.

Christopher Glennon, M.F.A. '12 is a critic and reporter for Toon Zone, an online review of animation films and television, and an alumnus of the LMU School of Film and Television. His thesis screenplay, an animated action/comedy, made the official selection for the 2013 International Family Film Festival’s Best Screenplay in the Animated category and was endorsed by Kid’s First. 

Michael McNaught (moderator) is assistant director of the LMU Center for Religion and Spirituality, and presently chairs the film showcase at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress.
