Workshop: "Prison Yoga Project: A Path for Healing Original Pain" with Kate Beckel and Bill Brown

 

The Center for Religion & Spirituality invites you to this public Yoga, Mindfulness and Social Change workshop with Yoga Prison Project instructors Kate Beckel and Bill Brown.

This workshop will introduce participants to mindfulness-based, trauma-informed methodology for teaching yoga in prisons and in rehabilitation and recovery centers. The speakers will provide evidence-based support for these programs and speak about how to address common emotional/psychological issues of prisoners using yoga and mindfulness as therapeutic practices. The workshop will include a short asana practice proven effective in introducing yoga to prisoners and addressing their common psycho-physiological issues.

Online registration is open (click Buy Tickets button). In the event the workshop is canceled, participants will be notified by Wednesday, the week of the workshop. Registration fees are refunded only if the workshop is canceled; no refund for partial attendance or no-show.

About the Speakers
Kate Beckel is director of Operations and Outreach and an instructor at Las Colinas and Vista Detention Facilities. Bill Brown is director of Programs and an instructor at R.J. Donovan State Prison and East Mesa Reentry Facility.
