The Center for Religion & Spirituality invites you to this public Yoga, Mindfulness and Social Change workshop with activists Kathy Bingham and Patty Shenker.

What we eat has changed more in the last 40 years than it did in the 40,000 years before. In this workshop Health Educator and Yoga Instructor Kathy Bingham will explore the implications of our food choices on our personal and environmental health. What is the true cost of modern industrial agriculture? What is Food Activism and what issues fuel its growth? What’s happening to the health of our nation eating the typical American diet? What is the connection between industry and public policy related to agriculture, and dietary recommendations? We will discover the health and environmental benefits of a whole foods, plant based diet, and explore vegetarianism as a yogic practice.

Animal advocate Patty Shenker will be talking about one of her favorite animals- the orangutans, who she visited in Indonesia with the famous Dr. Birute Galdikas. Orangutans are very endangered, due primarily to palm oil which she will be discussing in hopes that education, conservation and public outcry can save this magnificent species. Yoga helps us to understand the interconnected of all and we come to understand that our food choices really matter. Our fork can be a weapon of destruction or an instrument of compassion and connection.
