Workshop: "Yoga Safety, Sustainability and Service" with Mark Lilly

The Center for Religion & Spirituality invites you to this Yoga, Mindfulness and Social Change workshop of with activist and yogi Mark Lilly.

In this workshop, we will focus on building safety and self-awareness for all participants in a yoga practice. We will learn how to best offer sustainable yoga programs to young people and teachers in secondary and primary schools, as well as young people in foster care (and the staff and carers who support them), dealing with homelessness, or otherwise struggling with the fallout from past or ongoing trauma.

The lens of safety will allow us to embrace serving the most vulnerable people in any population, and the internal directive to be as participatory as possible will challenge us to give all members of the project—be they teachers, yoga instructors, vulnerable young people, and other key stakeholders—a say in how the material will be looked at, documented and used in both the near and longer term. Both a focus on safety and a goal of broad inclusiveness will also be viewed as part of the whole scope of the practices, and will be used as opportunities for each person to gain additional knowledge of self and others.
