Balinese Gamelan: An open invitation to/into play
with Prof. Paul Humphreys (emeritus) and Prof. Divine Gbagbo
Department of Music, College of Fine Arts
The Marymount Institute for Faith, Culture, and the Arts is pleased to offer an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to experience the beauty of Balinese Gamelan instruments through playing together.
In Bali, gamelan playing at all levels is understood as a process by which musical logic ‘is brought into the heart.’ It is not so much about performing or ‘being a musician’ as it is about creating beauty through music in the company of one another. So please come as you are and nourish your soul in the doubly special kind of play that is music that is gamelan.
Four Sessions held at the Marymount Institute lounge (UNH 3002) alternating Tuesdays 2-3:30pm on:
March 11 (the week after spring break)
