March 10th – June 27th, 2014

William H. Hannon Library, level 3 atrium

Please join us to celebrate the opening of Picturing Paradise/Destellos del Paraiso, a series of thirty-nine embroidered and appliquéd fabric artworks of varying sizes and themes created by two women’s cooperatives in Peru, celebrating women, faith and creativity as a force for transformation.

Rebecca Berru Davis, (LMU Alumna) curator and scholar of this traveling exhibition will speak about these women artists who through their art reflect creativity, resilience, and hope despite the harsh conditions of their lives, with a response in poetry by Sarah Maclay and Gail Wronsky, from the LMU English Department.

The talk will begin at 6:30 p.m., with an exhibition viewing and reception in the atrium immediately following.

Cuadros will be on sale at this event, with all proceeds to benefit the women’s cooperatives producing the works.

Event is free and open to the public.

Please RSVP here, or call 310.338.4235.

On March 16, a conversation conducted entirely in Spanish, will explore how women's faith and agency is expressed through art. Learn more...
