Reimagining the Soundscape: Their Own Lane

Composer David S. Carter, an Assistant Professor of Music at Loyola Marymount University, made a series of recordings this summer in Inglewood, Westchester, Lennox, Culver City, and Playa del Rey documenting the soundscape in these areas and created an atmospheric yet danceable composition with them. He has combined the audio of the piece with newly-shot as well as historical video footage that provides a visual counterpoint. He will introduce and present the piece, after which he will lead an interactive workshop in which those attending will have the opportunity to play instruments as he improvises with the sampled sounds he used for the piece.
