About this Event
1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90045
Come together in community, listen, chant, and help fund fire relief support throughout Los Angeles. Bring donations in person and or tune in virtually and receive information about how you can support from a far. We will be lifting up the efforts of the YMCA, especially our local Westchester branch, and the Humane Societies of Pasadena, and San Gabriel Valley—in person and live virtually on zoom.
A note from Dr. Slatoff: I wrote this poem a few weeks ago, never imagining the terrible fires which were to come here in LA, and how poignant this would be. One of my closest friends has lost his home. And his sister. And my cousin. While these teachings on appreciating the moment and non-attachment ring all the more true in these moments, the reality is that so many have lost so much. At this time, the yoga of action is most important. We ask that you take this opportunity to donate to the network of YMCA locations in Los Angeles as well as our local Humane Societies to help support those who have been deeply affected to rebuild in this challenging moment. Please join us for a night of Sanskrit poetry, dedicated to that purpose.
Join Yoga Studies for our second Sanskrit Poetry Slam! The evening will begin with an all-levels introduction to Sanskrit verse by Dr. Zoë Slatoff, followed by presentations of original verses and translations from students and faculty.
