Emily Lucitt (UCLA) will speak on the connections between public history and heritage activism through the lens of #savemoorestreet movement. In 1966, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the (failed) Easter Rising for Irish Independence, small placques were installed on buildings around Dublin except for a terrace on Moore Street where the final battle took place. Meanwhile, an international property developer was planning to build a shopping center on the site. Thus began the citizens' campaign, "Save Moore Street," and transform it into a virbant cultural center.
