About this Event
As we move into a new semester, the Office of Intercultural Affairs continues to develop resources, support, and programming that can help facilitate our university’s efforts to address systemic racism in concrete ways.
How do we proceed with addressing systemic racism?
An internally focused systemic analysis is the first step. The point of this process is to consider how obstacles are “baked” into our systems and structures for the students we are trying to serve. In doing so, we flip our perspective from asking “how do we change students to better meet the challenges of an LMU education?” to “how do we change our institutional structures and processes to be more equitable, responsive, and inclusive in meeting the needs of all our students?”
OIA is offering consultation workshops for units who have begun their systemic analysis and would like guidance and further resources as they move through the steps. As aligned with the president’s June 16th letter, Beyond Words, and our university’s mission, where faith and justice are always intertwined, our objective is to equip all academic and staff units to fully engage the Systemic Analysis.
In each 1-hour technical assistance session, participants will be able to discuss and refine approaches through identifying common challenges, sharing ideas, and trouble-shooting potential solutions together. All participants will receive a digital guidebook that includes resources, LMU demographic data, and helpful tips as well as recognition for the units that they represent on our OIA website page.
