Please join the department of African American Studies for a conversation about craft and community with Harlem-bred writer and director Zora Howard. Her plays include the Master’s Tools, Bust, atGN, and The Motions, and have been produced at the Pasadena Playhouse, The Goodman Theatre, The Flea, and The Alliance Theatre. Her play Stew was a 2021 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and her play Hang Time will be presented by the Apollo Theater this November. In 2020, her feature film Premature, which she co-wrote with director Rashaad Ernesto Green, opened in theaters following its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Howard first entered the public eye as a teenage poet and was appointed as the inaugural New York City Youth Poet Laureate in 2009.
