About this Event
7200-7238 Loyola Marymount University Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA
Please join us for a pre-film reception and screening of the film “St. Declan’s and THE MAGIC CHAIR” followed by a panel discussion featuring LMU Chancellor Fr. Mike Engh, S.J. and notable faculty from BCLA and SOE. Made by SFTV Professor Gregory Ruzzin and SOE Professor and Director of Irish Studies Vicki Graf, the film tells the story of a unique Jesuit school for children with disabilities in Dublin, Ireland and invites conversations about Jesuit values and education.
The event is an interdisciplinary collaboration between SFTV, BCLA, and SOE and uses the film as a springboard to discuss a community that society has traditionally shied away from. The event seeks to address the role that the Jesuit mission and educational values may have in addressing the issue of disability, as well as its possible implications for us here at Loyola Marymount University. You can view a trailer of the film here: “St. Declan’s and THE MAGIC CHAIR” trailer.
The event is being held in collaboration with the “A Neighborly Conversation: Disability Studies in West Los Angeles” Conference and supported by Media Arts and a Just Society (MAJS), the LMU Jesuit Community, and SFTV.
