Our second installment in our History in the Headlines series, this event features our new professor, Dr. Ali A. Olomi, as he shares his research on the uses and misuses of premodern history in modern political movements. Dr. Olomi is a historian of medieval and modern Islamic thought, studying how religion and science intersect with empire and identity and how Muslims imagined their world through cosmological and geographic writings. He will be in conversation with Dr. Kevin McDonald, who will discuss political uses of colonial American history, and Dr. Elizabeth Drummond, who will explore how modern political movements manipulate a medieval European past.
