About this Event
As part of the Balkan Spirit in Drama class and collaboration with SFTV as part of their Monday Night Screening series, we would like to invite you to join us for a screening of the Bosnian film When Santa Was a Communist, directed by Bosnian filmmaker Emir Kapetanovic. The screening will be followed by a 30-Minute Q&A Session with the Director and Lead Actors. Register for the LEO event here!
This film, based on true events, tells the story of an acting troupe touring post-war Bosnia with a play about Santa Claus, aiming to spread holiday cheer in small towns. While the children are delighted, the appearance of Santa Claus reignites old conflicts between the adults. Darkly humored Balkan comedy, When Santa Was a Communist is understated and universal enough to resonate beyond the region, wrapping its idealistic message of multicultural unity in festive layers of irony.
